One of the most powerful statements I have ever heard is, “How you play in school dictates how you will play in the real world.” I remember the first time I heard this statement, I thought, “What exactly does that mean?” It’s simple- the habits that you learn while you’re in school will follow you into your new career as a salon or spa professional.
In other words, the daily things you do or don’t do while you’re in school will become habits and will follow you in your professional life. Let me give you a few examples:
Remember, the classroom and student salon provides you with much more than just learning a technical skill or getting your license. It provides you the opportunity to try on and master all skills needed to become a successful industry professional. This is your golden opportunity to try-on and master these skills in a safe learning environment, so go all out! At the end of the day, wouldn't you rather make mistakes at school than on a real client? The only way you'll know is if you truly push yourself in the classroom or on the floor.
The next time you catch yourself saying “I’ll do that when I graduate and I’m working in the salon/spa” stop yourself. It comes down to this: the things you do today will follow you and become habits for tomorrow.
