It's often said that it costs more money to gain a new client then it does to retain a current one. Let’s face: most of us dread the work that it takes to gain a client. Tell a newbie hairdresser or esthy to go meet 5 new people and give them a business card, and they’ll look at you like a deer in the headlights. Talk to a salon owner about failed marketing campaigns and you’ll understand why they are so frustrated about at spending hard-earned money on efforts that don’t yield enough new business. Client retention is one of the biggest struggles new and veteran beauty pros encounter, but it doesn't have to be. If you really want to grow your business and start working smarter not harder, follow these 5 tips to get your customers to stick around.
Finally, whatever you do, don’t take your customers for granted. They are paying you for a service; they literally write your paycheck. Be respectful and appreciative of that. Use your manners, address them professionally, be courteous and gracious. Listen to their needs and focus on them. Customer service is about serving your customer’s needs, not yours. Funny thing is that the more you serve their needs the more yours will be met.
