How To Become A Positive Thinker

positivethinkingDid you know that one of the most important keys to success is having a positive attitude? Success comes in many ways and forms, whether it’s being successful while you’re in school, or upon graduation and working in your dream salon or spa. Most successful people have very similar qualities and one of those qualities is a positive attitude. Have you ever meet someone who said they didn’t want to be successful? Probably not; it’s time to think positively.

What exactly is a positive attitude? It’s the way you see things, the way you interpret things, and your overall outlook on any given situation. You have two ways to view the world: from a positive or negative place.

We have all met someone who seems to always be happy, smiling, and positive. These are the people that seem to magically brighten up a room. We have also all met someone that lives in a negative space (personally I call these people doom and gloom.) They don’t seem to be positive and can bring down the mood or drive of a group. Now consider which person you most often show to people. Who do you show up to school as? What about when you’re working in the student salon with customers? Now is the time to be honest with yourself: do you have a positive or negative attitude?

If you tend to lean towards the negative, here are some tips for fostering a positive attitude:

  • Use only positive words- Words like, “I can, I am able, it is possible, it can be done.” A positive attitude starts with you: respect yourself and believe in your abilities.
  • Be enthusiastic-People love to be around people who are enthusiastic.  Enthusiasm is contagious and draws others to you like a magnet. I can’t think of a better way to build a clientele.
  • Smile – Smiling make it all better. Did you know that smiling release endorphins and serotonin, which are known as the feel good hormones? Trust me, it’s a lot easier to adopt a positive attitude when you feel good!
  • Stop Complaining – this is a big one! Limit your complaints. The truth of the matter is whining and griping about anything and everything will not create a positive attitude. The fact is when you’re complaining you spread negativity.

Give yourself an attitude checkup. If you find you’re in need of an attitude adjustment, then try some of these steps above. Be conscious in your thoughts, about others and yourself; be honest, are you too hard on clients, too hard on yourself? Make some adjustments, be patient, and stick with the positive. Success will be sure to follow.
