For many new professionals, making a final career choice can be scary. We struggle with that little internal voice that says, "Is this career path right for me?” We worry that our friends and family won't support our decision or that when others hear we chose a trade vs. a college-degree career they'll judge us.
It’s human nature to want to be accepted, supported, and recognized and when we receive that acceptance, it can often provide us with that stamp of approval. That approval reassures us that we made the correct decision. Unfortunately, when it comes to career choices, not everybody is going to give you the stamp of approval. And that's okay.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, our industry is predicted to grow 10% in the next ten years; that's 3% more than the nation's average. So right away you can stop worrying about finding a job or making a living. (If you're you're really worried, this might help.) Instead, you need to focus your energy on owning your career decision. The only person that needs to believe in your choices, is YOU! Owning your career path is essential to your success, so stop seeking other people’s approval. Easier said than done, right?
To help you move past looking that final stamp of approval repeat after me, “You are…”
YOU ARE in control of your life! You are the one in control of your life. Listen to your heart and follow your passions.
YOU ARE in charge of your own happiness. What makes you happy? Remind yourself why you chose a career path in the beauty and wellness industry.
YOU ARE in control of your own success. Your friends and family are not in control of your success. Take full ownership of your career path. Own it!
Yes, there’s a great deal to be said for talking about the pros and cons to your career path, but, you can’t let other people’s opinions and reactions hold you back from your dream career. Remember, YOU ARE!
