Spring is in the air and that means it's time for prom and wedding season. For many new professionals, this time of year can be a bit overwhelming. Let’s be honest: the salon can be right out hectic, with large groups of bridal parties that want to share that special moment together to large groups young prom goers running around wanting to get beautified with their classmates and friends.
On the upside, this time of year can be very lucrative and can generate a great deal of revenue for salon professionals. To help you mentally and physically prepare for the demands that this busy season can place on you, follow these helpful tips.
Get Organized: In preparation for all those updos you’ll be performing, get your supplies organized. I suggest you create an Updo Kit. Purchase a plastic tackle box case at your nearest sporting goods store. Neatly arrange all of your supplies, such as bobby pins, hair pins, elastic bands, and clips. Having all of your styling supplies in one handy case will save you a great deal of time and energy.
Create A Special Occasion Portfolio: Spend a little time and create a special occasion portfolio displaying a variety of special occasion styles. Use your portfolio when conducting your client consultations to give your clients new ideas. If you want to add some new styles and techniques to your portfolio, check out these ideas. Make certain you and your customer are on the same page before you begin their service. There is nothing more disappointing than hearing your customer say half-way through their updo that they don’t like it! This helpful tool can save you a great deal of time and eliminate any miscommunications.
Take Care of Yourself: During these long days don’t forget to take care of you! Stock up on easy energy snacks like power bars or meal replacement shakes to keep in your break room or in a designated station drawer. This way you have some fuel f things get too busy to take a sit-down lunch break. You should also stay hydrated. Standing on your feet for 8 hours and that double-shot of espresso you sipped before your shift will dehydrate you. Bring in a reusable water bottle and sip from it throughout the day to keep your energy up and your body happy.
Prom and wedding season doesn’t have to be a stressful time (depending on your preferences, it might even be the most exciting time of the year!) With a little prep work, you can enjoy each session and take part in the fun and happiness of your client's big day.
