We’ve already discussed how to prep for a review, but how do you create a plan for your next career move, whether that be choosing a specialty or opening your own booth? At some point in time, we have all fantasized about having that “dream career.” Whether your dream is to work in a salon as a specialist, as a platform artist, or owning your own business, each of us has our own goal. The challenge isn’t the lack of having dreams, it's knowing how to turn those dreams into your reality.
There is only one thing that gets in our way of achieving our dreams: not having a plan. Have you ever wondered why some individuals achieve their dreams while others seem to sit on the sidelines and only fantasize? It's because we can’t just dream it and it will magically manifest. If you want your dream career to come true, then you need to take ownership of that dream. Simple right?
Planning your next career move can be executed successfully with a few steps.
#1: Identify your dream career or goal. Not sure what yours is? This quiz can help. Once you have identified it, write it down.
#2: Create small, measurable goals that will help you achieve your dream. First, consider what skills sets you need to qualify for that career. Do you have these skills already or do you need to learn them? Jot down the steps you'll take to master the skills you need to work on.
#3: Set a timeline for each of those goals. Hold yourself accountable, and check in to make sure you are on task. I like to set a measurable goal for myself ever two weeks, and once I have completed the goal, I check it off and move forward. Take your list of skills you need to work on and plan on when and how you'll learn them.
It is totally normal to feel overwhelmed at this point. More than likely you can visualize yourself in the “dream career” but, perhaps you aren't exactly sure what’s skill sets are needed or where you can go for the additional training that you might need. Let us help you with the planning process. Take this quick interactive quiz to help you set your plan into motion, and we'll recommend some action steps and suggest helpful tools that will help you reach your dreams faster.
