Don’t you just hate it when you and your client are having a great time, you’ve given them the pedicure of all pedicures, you've added a shiny new coat of polish and then you discover that they didn’t bring their flip-flops or sandals? Argh!
Now, you are going to have to fix a botched polish job and likely cut into your next client’s service time fixing what should not have been an issue in the first place. So what’s the deal with clients not bringing the proper pedi shoes to the salon, and should you implement a flip-flop/sandal policy for your clients?
While most clients will bring their own pedi appropriate shoes to the salon, some will not and they depend on you to provide disposable slippers each time they come in. Implementing a “flip-flop” policy that requires your clients to bring in their own sandals is a good idea in theory, but it can also be a little sketchy because of our type of business.
As a service provider, you should have everything you and the client need in order to complete a successful service and having pedi slippers on hand is one of those things that ensure success. If you are depending solely on your client to bring sandals each time they come for a pedicure, you could be setting yourself up for backlash and disappointing your clients. Almost all major salons, at a minimum, provide disposable slippers for their clients, and the ones that do not, offer a viable option for clients who either don’t have or have forgotten their sandals. Although this is frustrating and can become an added expense, you do have some options.
Truth is, you never know what the situation is when a client comes in without the proper shoes. You are providing a service in a relaxing environment and you don’t want to ruin the client’s experience with something so “pedi." Disposable slippers are a minimal expense and certainly not worth you losing a client. If you feel that you still want to implement this policy, offer some practical options that make you and the client comfortable.
