On-Trend Nail Looks For Fall & Winter 2018

Fall is here, and cooler temperatures mean cooler nails. The runways in New York, Milan, Paris, and London were lit this year with…you guessed it, even more, awe-inspiring nail art, dramatic colors, glossy tips and more. As nail techs, it's important to stay clued into trends, not only because you want your offerings to be fresh, but because informed stylists equal informed clients. Clients want to know that their nail tech is in the loop, that they can spot trends and make suggestions based on the new "it" thing. This kind of know-how helps build trust between you and your clients, so we've gathered up the top 7 trends you should be paying attention to.

  1. Dark dramatic colors. We know that darker colors are a winter staple, but think your favorite winter color then think darker. Dark colors this year are very dramatic; think deeper hues of shades we already love like reds, teals, and olives.
  2. Metallic polishes. Everybody loves a little shine every now and again and this fall we will see even more metallic nails, outside of the traditional golds, coppers, and silvers. Metallic blues, greens, burgundies, neutrals – you name it; anything goes with metallic this fall.

  3. Jewel tones. Though diamonds are a girl’s best friend, jewel tones inspired by precious stones like rubies, sapphires and amethysts might just steal the show this season.  Jewel-toned manicures will be in high demand, especially around the holidays this year, so stock up on these little gems.

  4. Rich reds. Reds are never out of style or out of season and this year proves that this versatile shade is here to stay. We’ll see reds get richer and darker this season. Think chocolate cherry or bloody browns.

  5. Minimalist. Minimalist nails are back, but they are back with a twist. Don’t be surprised to see clean minimalist nail art with a dramatic pop of color or a crystal or two. This trend is sure to tempt even your pickiest minimalist nail-lista.

  6. Conservative shapes. Ovals and round nails are making a comeback from stilettos and lipsticks. Nail shapes are more toned down, but colors on these modestly shaped nails have turned up this fall. This paired trend balances the other out – like a mullet. This manicure has the business in the front, party in the back kind of feel. Conservative, but still fun.

  7. Matte polish. When it comes to matte polishes, like me, most clients either love them or hate them, usually going full force for the shiny, glossy polishes. But matte is back and it’s showing up as the backdrop of some awesome manicures this fall. For clients who say they are bored or want to try something new suggest a matte polish.

If you're looking to bring in new clients or want to encourage established clientele to be adventurous, any of these on-trend looks could create happy clients and add more money in your pocket.
