The Series Stylists Can't Stop Binge-Watching

Picture it: your client returns after three weeks for a color retouch. Her life has become complicated and stressful since you last saw her, leaving her sad and unresponsive; however, you do what you can to offer support and ace her touch-up. Sounds like something that could actually happen to you, right? That's the exact kind of scenario our latest video series covers (in episode 19, if you want to know.)

The series, Studio Luma, follows four stylists, Sylvie, Alice, Brad, and Viv, as they try to make it in the beauty industry. In each of the 48 episodes, you learn how to handle real-world situations gracefully, all the while getting a refresher on the technical side. For example, the episode mentioned above shows you the story of Viv and her client Reese, but it also outlines: how to style chemically treated hair that may be damaged, the safety and sanitation requirements of double-process and design, and how porosity impacts hair. Not too bad for a 30-minute video.

Studio Luma was created with professionals in mind: up to 80% of your financial success is based on how well you communicate and the experience that a guest has with you. Studio Luma highlights the power of every-day interactions using animation and storytelling (plus it's fun to watch, sort of like the Grey's Anatomy of the beauty world.)

What Stylists Have To Say

When we first showed Studio Luma to stylists, cosmetology instructors, and salon owners, they were floored. Let's be real: a series that has a good storyline and teaches is hard to come-by; even I didn't know what to expect when I first watched, but then I got hooked. One stylist, Jennifer, has been working in the industry for fifteen years. She said:

“The information about the technical application was very informative, but the most important lesson is how to conduct yourself with clients and maintain [good work] throughout a long service.”

Keri, a recently licensed stylist called Studio Luma

"A way to visually learn. You’re watching a video with a storyline that teaches you at the same time."

We can't agree more.

How Do You Watch Studio Luma?

So how does it work? Unlike other video tutorials and DVDs that we've created in the past, Studio Luma is a 100% online, digital series. We've partnered with Vimeo to give stylists complete access to the full series on their site, so you don't need to log-into your MiladyPro.com account to watch. You can rent one video at a time for 72 hours or rent the full series for 3-months. If you're like us, you might even want to hop around, watching only the episodes that focus on skills you want to master, like double-process color or working with stubborn clients. The best part? Vimeo allows you to watch Studio Luma on your phone, Roku, Smart TV, laptop—wherever, and you get to learn how you learn best: at your own pace.

Today is the official launch: so what are you waiting for? Watch your first episode on us here.
