Shearious Questions: When Do I Tell My Clients About A Price Change?

SITUATION:  I’m going to raise my prices do I let my clients know in advance?

SITUATION REVIEW:   Price increases are always great news for service providers and the salon/spa, however, it’s not always music to your client’s ears.  There are some best practices to follow to help ensure a smooth price increase.

SOLUTION:  Communication is key, especially when it affects your client’s pocket book.  Inform your customers ahead of time about your increase at least a few appointments prior to the increase taking effect.   My suggestion would be the sooner the better!  There is nothing worse than being unpleasantly surprised about a price increase.  To help communicate your increase either; post a sign at your station/treatment room or communicate the message via a letter.

Be sure to include: effective date, new service prices, and communicate the reason (explain the cost of doing business, advanced trainings, and your continued commitment to excellence) in addition share your sincere appreciation for their continued patronage. 

GROWTH OPPORTUNITY:  Price increases are a part of doing business and customers understand the need for continued growth. When raising prices, it’s important to remember it’s not just about increase your services prices, you need to up your game and over-deliver.  In other words, by providing outstanding service and care to your customer can help demonstrate that your professional value far exceeds the price increase.
