Lived-In Lob: A Tutorial With Christian Awesome

My model, Erin, is looking for a big change. She currently has waist length hair and is looking to bring it up to her collarbone in the front and a tad bit shorter in back (aka a lob.) This will give her the change she's looking for while still allowing this busy mom to easily wear her hair up. She has a fine texture with a heavy density which is well suited for this kind of haircut. Watch the tutorial below to see how I walk through the cut.

Lived-In Lob Steps

  1. I began by setting a rough perimeter length to start from. The goal is for the haircut to look lived in so I chose to point into the length while wet which will diffuse and give a less structured appearance.
  2. Once complete I progressed onto the layering in the crown. By directing the hair away from the face, we're able to create more movement in the back.
  3. Using the layer in the crown as a guide for the top, I used my finger angle to keep a flatter, more balanced layer.
  4. Once the hair is dry, I refined with a point cut to further soften the overall appearance.
  5. To close and ensure Erin was able to reproduce the same look at home, I educated on what I used. She gets a beautiful cut and the tools to make it look great day after day and I have a happy client (and a retail sale.) It's a win-win.
