My clients are always asking how they can achieve my styles at home, especially when making their hair look like it hasn't been over-styled. Here is my breakdown of how to give a shorter bob subtle texture.
I begin at the front hairline. By taking vertical sections throughout, I position the iron so that the curls move away from the face. This will help the shape flow seamlessly together and helps the client build a muscle memory that will make it easier for them when introducing new techniques in future. I curl vertically to keep volume at the base at a minimum. Once finished with the first side, I repeat the same steps on the opposite side. I advise for this kind of look to use a larger barrel iron. Here I'm using a 1 1/2” iron for a length of hair that sits just past the jawline. Next, move into the nape but keep in mind this area can be skipped as long as the layering in the crown covers over. This helps your more inexperienced clients save some time and trouble. Finish by moving into the crown. As always, remember to give your professional recommendations on what products are needed to maintain the look throughout the day.
